Post-race Q & A with Nigerian sprinter Robert Simmons at the 2015 Texas Southern University Relays.

MC: How did the rainy weather impact your race?

RS: The weather really messed up the timing of the meet and the warmup, but I cannot complain because that is beyond my control. I just have to perform to the best of my abilities in any situation.

MC: Does this meet build up your confidence going into the 2015 outdoor season?

RS: It does it’s job in letting me know where I am, what I need to work on and how far away I am from reaching my goals.

MC: What big international meets are you scheduled to compete in this season?

RS: So far, I have the World Relays in the Bahamas, the All-African Games, Nigerian Sports Festival, World Championships in China and any other meets that I am blessed to participate in.

The Texas Southern University Men’s Track and Field team won the 2015 Indoor SWAC Championship on February 22nd at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama. The Flying Tigers ended the meet with a total of 128 points to snag the conference title. This marked their seventh Indoor championship victory in league history. Head Coach Clyde Duncan was presented the 2015 Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year award.

Senior Demetrious Williams was presented the 2015 Men’s Most Outstanding Field Performer of the meet for his wins in the Long Jump with a leap of 7.20-meters and in the Triple Jump with a distance of 15.21-meters. I asked Williams how he felt about being recognized for his championship performances and he said, “I feel blessed, coming up short last year and not even placing in the triple jump gave me motivation to compete better this year. I’m more excited about the team winning the conference title though.” Sophomore D’Andre Lewis won the 1600-meter title in astonishing fashion by setting a new SWAC record with a time of 4 minutes 18.71 seconds. The Flying Tigers Track and Field program made history with their first Indoor championship title in over twenty years.

Atlantic recording artist Sevyn Streeter promoted her new album entitled On The Verge on Sunday, March 15th, 2015 at the Indigo Midtown Lounge in Houston, TX. Fans were granted access to get an exclusive listen to Sevyn’s album, a private live performance and were able to take pictures with the new superstar singer.

Sevyn wowed the crowd when she performed her hit single “It Won’t Stop” from her first album “Call Me Crazy, But.” When she hit the stage it was all about Sevyn. She set the tone and definitely captured the crowd’s attention with her outstanding voice and stage etiquette. She then followed her performance with a short Q & A session with her fans. One of the questions she was asked was, “whom do you look up to in the music industry.” Sevyn answered by naming multiple successful artists such as Beyoncé Knowles. She said, “I could go on forever naming artists.” After the Q & A, fans were privileged to meet and take a personal photo with Sevyn. Fans bombarded the stage to get a selfie, or should I say an “us-ie” with her. All eyes were on Sevyn as she did an amazing job connecting with her fans.

Sevyn’s listening event was a huge success. Don’t Kill The Fun is my favorite song off the On The Verge album because I loved the upbeat feel of the track. It makes you want to put on your party clothes and go turn up with your girlfriends. It’s a vibrant, sexy, fun song to vibe and dance to. I am so excited about the new album and cannot wait until it drops.
